Robert Schimmel Dead: Leaves Children, Ex-Wife Melissa and Vicki

September 4, 2010

Our condolences go out to Robert Schimmel’s children and his two ex-wives, Melissa Schimmel assuming the reports of his passing are true. According to Jimmy Kimmel’s Twitter page, since confirmed by brother Jeff Schimmel, the stand up comedian passed in the evening on September 3rd, 2010, after an accident left put him in the hospital in critical condition. A brief biography plus a video routine and photos are here.

Robert Schimmel

Details of the event are sketchy at this point. Four days ago he was riding shotgun in a car driven by Robert Schimmel daughter. She reportedly swerved to avoid collision and lost control of the vehicle. She is only 19 years old and must be devastated by the news. Our hearts go out to her and Robert Schimmel’s wife Melissa who divorced him last year.

The news of his passing was reported by fellow comedian Jimmy Kimmel via Twitter, although he did not have positive confirmation at the time. You can read more here and here and here.

The last link is Kimmel’s Tweet. They were friends and he reported this to his 135,000 followers:

“I have no official confirmation but am told that Bob passed away. I hope I have been given bad information, but don’t think so.”

The sad news was confirmed on Jeff Schimmel’s Facebook page later in the evening. He is a younger brother who confirmed:

“ROBERT SCHIMMEL. Son, Brother, Father, Grandfather, Comedian, Generous Man. I have always loved you, admired you, and was proud to be your biggest fan. I will never forget a single moment. R.I.P.”

As a biography Schimmel was born January 16, 1950 which makes him 60 years old. He made frequent appearances on HBO comedy specials and his caustic sense of humor brought him to the Howard Stern show on multiple occasions.

He has had a difficult family life which saw two divorces and tragedy. His first wife was Vicki Schimmel with whom he had four children after marrying in 1977 at the age of 27 years old. One of their children (Derek Schimmel) passed from cancer when only 11 years old, and as many couple do in such circumstances, their marriage could not survive the catastrophic event.

After the first divorce he married Melissa Schimmel and fathered two more children. That makes five grieving children and two distraught ex-wives, as well as countless fans who cherished his brand of entertainment.

Robert Schimmel also endured chemotherapy for cancer ten years ago and a heart attack two years prior. He seemed to be a survivor.

See the video below as a tribute to his legacy and more thumbnail pictures that you can blow up. His sweet face did not match his famous mouth.

In the video clip he talks about his first experience with girls and has the audience in his hands. Readers, please share your thoughts in the comments about the man.

Your story/announcement is based on an alleged tweet from Jimmy Kimmel.

I have seen no official news source report his death and Wikipedia is not showing a date of death.

Serious question: has the writer of this “story” ever taken an *actual* English/writing class? Awful.

At first I was just annoyed with the typos, but then you say he had 4 kids with his first wife, one of which passed away, and then had two more with his second wife, leaving 6 grieving children.
NO, that leaves five. Come on, did anyone proofread this article?
It may be RightCelebrity, just not BrightCelebrity

There were so many grammatical errors that I couldn’t even get through the whole story.
