Wall Street Journal reporter Douglas Belkin is in deep doo doo. Yesterday, July 21st, 2010 the journalist was arrested for not following orders while covering the Rod Blagojevich trial. But it appears that the newspaper will be fighting the charges that have been laid up against one of their own.

So what exactly did or didn’t Belkin do? Well while he was at the Dirksen Federal Courthouse lobby, he was waiting ever so patiently in the designated reporters’ area covering the trial like any other when he decided to leave the area to snag up an interview with one of the attorneys. Apparently that was not a wise decision.

Belkis Cantor, a U.S. Marshals spokeswoman, said that Belkin was told to stop and get his booty back into the designated area, but he allegedly refused to comply with the order. The security guard stated, “I told him three times to back up and he didn’t. He put his hands on me.” A citation was issued to the reporter indicating a misdemeanor for not following directions or signs during the trial and for apparently touching a U.S. Marshal.

It is definitely a good thing for Douglas Belkin that he will have his employer backing him in this hearing, helping him fight any and all charges. And really, it wasn’t like he committed murder or anything, but what do you think? Was this just petty enough for the Wall Street Journal reporter to get off with maybe a fine? Or was he just being used as an example for all reporters out there? Leave your comments in the section below.
