Dani Jarque: World Cup Goal Tribute

July 12, 2010

Last night Spain became champions for the first time thanks to an amazing score by Andres Iniesta! And with the goal he made a Dani Jarque World Cup tribute that everyone is talking about. Continue for all the details, including a video.

Andres Iniesta

The man he paid honor to was someone he never even played soccer with. The Spanish athlete died last August at age 26 from heart failure. On his undershirt he had written his name and “simpre con nosotros” which means always with us. Once he made what was the game winning goal, he took off his jersey and paid his respects.

Let’s get back to the awesome move by Andres Iniesta. During the first 90 minutes of regular time no scores were made so the game went into 30 minutes of extra time. They finally had a beautiful goal then and the scorer along with his whole team celebrated what seemed to be a certain championship.

The goal allowed them to win 1-0 to Holland, who has also never won the coveted title. Dani Jarque’s World Cup Tribute wouldn’t have been possible though, if they hadn’t scored, so I am glad they did! What did you think of the game, and the championship itself? Let me know after you check this tribute video.

What a finish. I was pulling for the Dutch.. but I guess it’s exciting for Spain, who was never won a World Cup final.
