Ali Hewson (also known as Ali Stewart), Bono’s wife, may be the wife of a superstar but she has put her stardom to good use. Read more about Hewson and see photos here.
Meet Ali Hewson, Bono’s wife. Ali was born in Dublin, Ireland on March 23rd, 1961. After Ali worked with her father at a motor insurance company, Hewson attended college at the University College Dublin (UCD) and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Political Science. Her passion was to be a nurse.
It was in 1975 that Ali met Bono and soon after started dating. They both attended Mount Temple Comprehensive School in Dublin. However, it was when Bono’s mother passed away that the two become very close. On August 21, 1982 the couple married at the Church of Ireland (Anglican) at All Saints Church in Raheny.
They have four children together: daughters Jordan, born on May 10th, 1989 and Memphis Eve born on July 7th, 1991 and sons Elijah Bob Patricus Guggi Q born on August 18th 1999 and John Abraham May 21st, 2001.
Though Ali gave up her career dreams of becoming a nurse, she has helped out many in her lifetime as an activist. Not only does she have her own fashion label that “encourages fair trade with third world nations and the abolition of sweatshops and child labor”, but she is active with the Chernobyl Children’s Project International (CCPI). (This particular organization works with children, families and whole communities that are still affected by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster that happened back in 1986.)
An interesting fact about Hewson is that Bono once forgot his wife’s birthday and he made it up to her by writing the hit song The Sweetest Thing. Not only did she get the song but she also received the profits. Ali chose to not just go out and splurge on herself, but rather donated all proceeds to CCPI.
So think of Bono’s wife Ali Hewson of more than just Mrs. Bono, she is a woman who is using her superstardom to help others less fortunate than she. You go girl!
