Shawn Johnson

This may have been the pitch that America’s sweetest gymnast needed to overcome since an embarassing and humiliating throw at a recent Iowa Cubs baseball game. But who cares, right? She is a gymnast! And I look forward to seeing her compete in the next Summer Games with the U.S. Women’s Gymnastics team! Be sure to check out photos and videos below.

Luckily for Shawn, the gymnast has apparently recovered from a torn ACL that she suffered back in February. It is said that the champion went under the knife and mastered crutches for some time. She says that she will participate in the London’s 2010 Summer Olympics and is currently training to prepare for some medal-winning performances.

At the 2008 Beijing Summer Games, Johnson earned the gold medal for her amazing accomplishments on the balance beam. She also earned three silver medals for the floor exercise, team competition, and All-Around title. Despite her silver win for the All-Around title and dubbed the title-winning favorite, she joined gold medal-winner and teammate Nastia Liukin at the podium. Shawn Johnson announced her attendence at the 2012 Olympics in Des Moines, Iowa, her hometown with the following statement:

“It’s just exciting, but I’ve got a ways to go. This is just a start. And nothing is a sure thing, but I’m going to give it as big and best an effort as I can.”

Shawn also competed in Season 8’s Dancing with the Stars and became its new champion and was awarded with the Mirror Ball trophy, alongside professional dancing partner, Mark Ballas. In the closest finale results show thus far, she beat out Gilles Marini and Melissa Rycroft.

Let’s hope that the future is bright for Olympian Shawn Johnson and that she can fully recover to compete at her best at the 2012 Olympics in London! Let the games begin! Leave us your thoughts in the comment box and see pictures and a video below.
