Elton John’s Parade Magazine comments have created a major buzz this week. Find out exactly what he said here.

Sunday’s edition of the mag may be their best seller in quite a while. That’s all because the brilliant pianist spouted a few choice words relating to religion that offer a slightly less mainstream take on things.

Here’s what the openly gay champion of equal rights had to say about Christianity:

“I think Jesus was a compassionate, super-intelligent gay man who understood human problems. On the cross, he forgave the people who crucified him. Jesus wanted us to be loving and forgiving. I don’t know what makes people so cruel. Try being a gay woman in the Middle East — you’re as good as dead.”

And about his love prior to meeting his current partner:

“I’d always choose someone younger. I wanted to smother them with love. I’d take them around the world, try to educate them. One after another they got a Cartier watch, a Versace outfit, maybe a sports car. They didn’t have jobs. They were reliant on me. I did this repeatedly. In six months they were bored and hated my guts because I’d taken their lives and self-worth away. I hadn’t intended to.”

Wow, where do I start? First off, I’m not so sure he meant what he said about the Jesus comment—but you never know. Second, I tend to agree with what he said about the Middle East. Do you remember when Iran’s ‘president’ said ‘There are no gay people in Iran?’ What I think he really meant was, ‘We’ve already hung all of the gay people in Iran.’

That second quote comes off as waaayyyy too arrogant. But then again, I suppose he has earned the right to be a little cocky.
