February 10, 2010

It has been confirmed that actor Louis Gosset Jr. has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. The good news, if you can call anything about cancer good, is that the cancer appears to be in the early stages. I have more on Louis Gossett Jr’s prostate cancer diagnosis below along with some pictures and a great interview video.

According to People.com Louis Gossett Jr. has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. The 73 year old actor has acted promptly upon learning his diagnosis and is expected to have a full recovery. Although it is great news that Gossett Jr. caught it early and is expected to make a full recovery, anytime cancer is involved it is scary.

Louis Gossett Jr. has decided to turn his cancer diagnosis into something positive, making people aware of the disease. People.com reports that the Academy Award winner is spreading the news about his condition because of the lack of awareness regarding the disease, which is highly treatable, in the male African American community. Basically he is using his celebrity status to get the word out about prostate cancer, which is actually a pretty common form of cancer, unfortunately.

I always like it when celebrities use their star status for good, especially when it comes to any form of a disease. I mean having cancer is a really private thing and for Louis or any celebrity for that matter to put it out there that they have it to help make people aware of the disease and it’s treatments is pretty awesome. I am a huge fan of Louis, An Officer and A Gentleman is one of my all time favorite movies and he is a big reason why I love it so much. He is a fantastic actor and an amazing person.

Louis Gossett Jr. has cancer, prostate cancer to be exact, here is hoping he makes a healthy and fast recovery.
