You may remember her as the cute little girl whose harrowing tale caught the attention of the President, pop stars such as Rihanna, and countless others across the United States.

Her family’s desperate search for a bone marrow donor went worldwide as supporters rallied to save her life. Despite the efforts and prayers of thousands around the world, she has now passed away. She was just 6-years-old.

Somehow through it all, she stayed in good spirits. Her strength is something Rihanna was taken aback by when paying her a surprise visit last year. Back in April of 2009, the singer popped into Jasmina’s room at NYU Medical Center—something that was a dream come true for the little girl, who reportedly lit up immediately upon seeing the star enter the room.

According to those who cared for her, she would often feel lethargic after enduring strong chemotherapy doses, but when RiRi came in the vibrancy returned to her eyes.

Katharina Harf, who worked closely with her had this to say about the visit:

“…when Rihanna walked into the room, there was no sign of (exhaustion) at all…Jasmina loves Rihanna. And Rihanna fell in love with Jasmina.”

President Obama made the following remarks about her passing:

“It is with great sadness today that Michelle and I extend our condolences on the passing of Jasmina Anema. Jasmina showed tremendous bravery in the face of adversity, and her ability to stay positive throughout her battle was an inspiration to me and to all those she touched…”

Around 7PM Wednesday night her antibiotics began to lose efficacy, and by 10:55PM she was no longer with us. Although she has left the physical realm, her spirit and courage will linger on.

Here are some photos and video of Jasmina Anema. May she rest in peace.
