As a biography, Jean Merilyn Simmons was born in Crouch End, London, UK on January 31, 1929 and died on January 22, 2010 at the age of 80. She is an actress. As a child, she was involved in dance and attended the Aida Foster School of Dance where she was discovered and was cast in “Give Us the Moon”. After acting in “Great Expectations”, and “Hamlet” she moved to Hollywood to pursue an acting career. In 1950, she signed on with Howard Hughes. During the 1950’s, and onward, she can be seen in the following movies: Angel Face, The Actress, The Robe, The Egyptian, Guys and Dolls, The Big Country, Elmer Gantry, Spartacus, and The Happy Ending. In the 1970’s she made numerous tv appearances and stage performances. She was featured in “A Little Night Music” which toured the United States. She also had a role in “West End”. She earned an Emmy award in “The Thorn Birds”. In the 1980’s, she can be seen in “North & South” and “The Dawning”. In 1989, she starred in another version of “Great Expectations” and later appeared in “Star Trek: The Next Generation. In 1950, she married actor Stewart Granger and together, they welcomed daughter Tracy Granger. The couple later divorced in 1960. That same year, she married director Richard Brooks and together, daughter Kate Brooks was born. They divorced in 1977. Simmons moved to Santa Monica, California where she later died of lung cancer on January 22, 2010.

According to reports, the “Guys and Dolls” actress died last night in her Santa Monica home. Her agent, Judy Page, confirms that Simmons had lung cancer.

The actress is remembered for taking home an Emmy for her role in “The Thorn Birds”. She was also recognized at the Golden Globe Awards show for her part in 1953’s “Guys and Dolls” for “Best Musical/Comedy” actress. Throughout her seven decade career, amongst many others, she has received several award nominations like BAFTA and Academy Award nominations.

Simmons is said to be survived by her two daughters, Tracy Granger and Kate Brooks, a dog, and two cats.
