Apparently, this is no joking matter. The decision ultimately lies in the hands of Conan O’Brien. Is he going to allow Jay Leno to have his original slot back and push him back, or will he just jump to another network? Only time will tell.

Reportedly, it is said that Jay Leno could return after the Winter Olympics to his time slot of 11:30 p.m. and that NBC has unexpectedly left Conan with a choice of either being pushed back to the midnight slot or signing on with another network completely.

TMZ reports that sources are saying the late night show host has not yet decided what his move will be. However, it can be assumed that he does not think this is joke. NBC did not offer much warning, if any at all. It is said that Conan’s representatives are in consideration of the deal.

Even though it appears that contracts aren’t exactly what they seem, NBC did release a statement saying, “We remain committed to keeping Conan O’Brien on NBC. He is a valued part of our late-night line-up, as he has been for more than 16 years, and is one of the most respected entertainers on television.”

The only difference in the hopeful swap, is that NBC allegedly moves Conan to 12:05 a.m. but would keep his hour. Get this, he would be able to keep the “Tonight Show” host title! I bet that just makes his day! In turn, Jay would be allowed a have a half an hour, starting at 11:35 p.m.

During Leno’s monologue, he asked, “What does NBC stand for? Never believe your contract.” Could not have said it better, Jay!
