Olympic swimmer Amanda Beard may have drawn attention to herself and earned devotion from fans with her fantastic swimming abilities, but in an effort to show her support for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), Beard has done it again. Amanda Beard may be known for her Olympic swimming abilities and her talent for winning medals, but believe it or not, Beard is a model as well. Many of you may remember 2007’s nude Playboy photo shoot when the athlete peeled off her swimsuit for a memorable pictorial? It is apparent Amanda is not afraid to take it all off and this time she does it for a cause. Yes, she is the latest celebrity to post for a nude PETA ad.
It is interesting to note that Beard was one of the first sports stars to pose nude for PETA breaking the barriers for other athletes to feel free to do the same. In fact, this isn’t the first time she has posed for the animal rights group either. Back in August of 2008, Amanda posed for her first nude PETA ad. The ad was featured at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Beard was quoted as saying, “Seeing animals slaughtered to be worn as fashion is awful to me, so I’m definitely against wearing fur … I’d much rather go naked than ever put a dead animal on my body.”
Now that Beard basically paved the way for fellow athletes to jump on the bandwagon in support of the animal rights group, she has proven she is both talented and not afraid to speak her mind. In October of 2009, Atlanta Falcons footballer Tony Gonzalez and his wife also posed for an ad.
Beard won seven Olympic medals in the years, 1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008.
