I am a HUGE fan of LOST, and I have to say, she’s a pretty good actress. It will be interesting to see her take on a more commanding role, though. Her spot in LOST is usually punctuated by her sense of not being sure of what will happen next and a overall feeling of not being in control. I’m imagining a very different Elizabeth Mitchell in V, which should give her a chance to show off her ability to take the reigns as a lead actress.
ABC’s ‘V’ is a remake of an old 80s mini-series with a theme that actually sounds kind of tired and cliché. It’ll be up to the producers to make it stand out in a television line-up that is largely populated by science fiction shows (think LOST, Heroes, Fringe, etc..)
Entertainment Weekly sat down with Mitchell to get some inside info on her role in the new series. Below are some snippets from the interview.
About joining the cast of ‘V’:
“I heard there was a science-fiction pilot with a really strong female protagonist…I didn’t want to be the antagonist again—I’d done that….I love adventures with strong female protagonists… So it was kind of a childhood fantasy to be able to do this…”
On the difference between her character in LOST and her character in ‘V’:
“Juliet was sneaky, which was lovely. And lethal. Mainly because she didn’t have any barriers in her mind that kept her from violence. But I think Erica has all those barriers in place—she just happens to be very strong…”
On the overall plot of ‘V’:
“Our resourceful resistance has banded together for better or for worse—some of us hate each other, some of us like each other— and we have found a massive threat against the human population. For the rest of the four episodes, we spend that time striking as many blows as we can against Anna [the leader of the Visitors, played by Morena Baccarin] and her group…”
