Rihanna’s Glamour interview is one of the first since her traumatic February assault by ex-boyfriend Chris Brown. Rihanna, named one of Glamour’s Women of the Year, opens up and has a message for young girls. Read more and see photos and video here.
Rihanna really opened up in her interview with Glamour magazine. After 10 months of remaining silent and trying to keep out of the spot light, it is understandable that people are dying to hear what she has to say and see how the highly publicized incident changed her life.
She has the support of her family and friends, yet says she still feels alone. She was also shocked and saddened by the leak of her assault photo, showing her bruised face:
“It was humiliating; that is not a photo you would show to anybody. I felt completely taken advantage of. I felt like people were making it into a fun topic on the Internet, and it’s my life. I was disappointed, especially when I found out the photo was [supposedly leaked by] two women.”
However, Rihanna says the incident has made her a stronger person and she feels like it has given her a voice that typically goes unheard.
“I’m stronger, wiser and more aware. You don’t realize how much your decisions affect people you don’t even know, like fans. My story was broadcast all over the world for people to see, and they have followed every step of my recovery. The positive thing that has come out of my situation is that people can learn from that. I want to give as much insight as I can to young women, because I feel like I represent a voice that really isn’t heard. Now I can help speak for those women.
Domestic violence is a big secret. No kid goes around and lets people know their parents fight. Teenage girls can’t tell their parents that their boyfriend beat them up. You don’t dare let your neighbor know that you fight. It’s one of the things we [women] will hide, because it’s embarrassing.
The talented singer hasn’t lost hope though, and still hopes to find love within the next ten years. She is also very excited about her new album, Rater R, which she says she has said everything she has wanted to say in the past 10 months on. Rated R hits shelves November 23, 2009, while Rihanna’s Glamour interview and cover hit newsstands on November 10.
