First Lady Michelle Obama’s Glamour Magazine cover was revealed today! The December 2009 edition hits newsstands next month, but we’ve got a preview here.
The issue, titled ‘Women Of The Year,’ spotlights Mrs. Obama along with eleven other influential women. All twelve will be honored in a ceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York City on November 9th.
Politics aside, it’s hard to deny that she exudes class and elegance. I’m sure even her husband’s biggest critics agree that she would make an ideal role model for any young woman. That’s why I couldn’t agree more with the choice to include her in the issue, which recognizes a handful of women who have dedicated time and energy to mentoring the next generation.
Speaking of role models, whom did she look up to during her formative years? She told the mag:
“My mom, for sure. My dad. The teachers. For me, role-modeling was immediate, it was touchable…Children connect with who is in their lives, present and accounted for…”
On her time spent mentoring:
“I think that mentoring is such a critical part of the role I can play in this position. I see how little bits of exposure and big bits of exposure really change my girls significantly, and I want that for more girls around the country and the world.”
It is a fashion magazine after all. Mrs. Obama says that style choices have to make you happy first, before they can please anyone else:
“People are always going to have opinions, and people have a right to their opinions, particularly when you’re the First Lady…But I’ve tried to be at peace with the choices that I make first, and then be open to everyone else’s reflection.”
The First Lady even touched on what to look for in a man, saying looks aren’t everything:
“Cute’s good. But cute only lasts for so long, and then it’s, Who are you as a person? Don’t look at the bankbook or the title. Look at the heart. Look at the soul…”
The recurrent theme in just about all of her interviews is that the American dream is still alive, and this one is no exception. She stresses that the White House is not a ‘magical’ place, but that hard work and dedication make the possibility of occupying it available to everyone.
The issue will be available starting November 10th. Check out a pic of Michelle Obama’s Glamour Magazine cover here. I’ve included some additional photos and video below.
