Boyzone fans were shocked to hear that one of its members had died earlier this week. Stephen Gately passed away at the young age of 33. So what exactly did the singer die from? Check out the autopsy results below.
Speculation regarding a Boyzone star’s death revolved around a possible drug or alcohol overdose. However, today a Spanish court has revealed that Boyzone star Stephen Gately has died from natural causes.
According to a statement released by a Balearic Islands Superior Tribunal statement, the autopsy shows Gately died as a result of a pulmonary edema, which refers to excessive fluid in the lungs. The most likely triggers for pulmonary edema occur when there is irregular rhythm of the heart or the functioning of the heart muscle or a valve are off kilter.
Even though the cause of death has been ruled as natural, it is not being reported whether the singer was taking drugs or was on a drinking binge at the time.
Gately was found dead on Saturday in a house near Port d’Andratx on the western tip of the Balearic holiday island of Mallorca.
So sad! Funeral arrangements and/or a memorial has not yet been announced for Stephen.
