Thanking his generous fans in a video message, the Season 8 American Idol runner up Adam Lambert (with goatee) is causing still more excitement in the days preceding the release of his debut album. Fans have indeed made headlines with their more than $229,000 in donations to DonorsChoose.Org.
He has rallied his fan base around a worthy cause. The charity facilitates a direct connection between donors and specific requests from public schools around the country. Teachers post their classroom project requests on the Web site. Requests can be any number of school supplies; musical instruments, laboratory equipment, pens and pencils, as just a few examples. Would be donors visit the Web site to make a donation towards the amount needed to grant the school’s request. When the target goal is reached, the charity sends the requested supplies to the school.
Via a special page on the site: DonorsChoose.Org/adam-lambert, the fans have raised $229,000…
In just four weeks, 1,956 fans contributed directly to music and arts-based, classroom project requests submitted by teachers at DonorsChoose.org, providing learning resources and supplies for more than 87,775 students.
Fans competed to raise money, with ongoing totals revealed via a “Lambert Leaderboard” on the charity’s Web site. LiveJournal community ONTD_AI raised the most money, $82,700, thus taking the top spot on the leader board $82,700.
In response, the rising music star Adam Lambert had this to say:
“I am unbelievably moved by the generosity and resolve of my fans, who have donated beyond what I could have ever expected to help students around the country. Although I was on tour during the length of the competition, I frequently checked in on the challenge progress and was so amazed to see the number of donors and total amount donated continue to rise and rise.”
