With hit singles like Apologize and Stop and Stare, it would almost seem impossible to top the chart success that OneRepublic achieved after the release of their debut album. So wouldn’t it be logical for the band to keep the chart topping streak running by carving out cookie cutter songs for their new album? Yeah, probably. However, the band’s front man Ryan Tedder says as musicians they have taken a more risky approach to Waking Up, their sophomore studio effort. With a more upbeat and mature sound, the band is sure to prove that even after great success, number one is still within reach.
OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder has been living and breathing music since the tender age of 3. And although many of us know of Ryan as the lead vocalist behind the successful chart toppers Apologize and Stop and Stare, what not everyone knows is that Tedder started out purely as a songwriter with a passion and a side job as a waiter.
Years later, not only did he write the hit single Apologize, but Tedder also helped write the hit song Bleeding Love that bumped Apologize out of the top spot for the biggest radio airplay hit in the history of Top 40 radio in North America.
Although Tedder had to go through hell and high water to make it to where he is today, his perseverance and passion for music is what captured the eyes and ears of famous music producer Timbaland. After spending a few years working with Timbaland, Tedder became more confident in his abilities as an overall musician and moved onto climbing his very own ladder to musical success.
With numerous hit songs under his belt making him a highly sought-after songwriter, a highly successful band with a brand spankin’ new album due in November (already receiving rave reviews), and performing in front of thousands of fans, life for Tedder couldn’t be any sweeter. Even after achieving much accomplishment, Ryan still refers to music as his hobby and passion. Check out the full interview with Ryan Tedder from OneRepublic below.
