Curtis Moore, an X Factor contestant is only 16 years old, with a sound Simon Cowell called “incredibly current.” Find out more about the young singer and what he has overcome in hopes of getting a break on Series 6 of the popular UK reality TV talent show.
It’s not every day on X Factor that a contestant shows up wearing a ‘tag’ as did 16-year-old Curtis Moore, who is from Birmingham. He showed presenter Dermot O’Leary and the camera the electronic device on his ankle while also revealing that he is not allowed to stay out past 9pm. He had been convicted of burglary and theft and under care as a young offender since the age of twelve.
Onstage, asked what his motivation was for auditioning, he said: “I want people to hear my music just like they will today.”
After a minor tussle with Simon Cowell — ending with the music mogul and judge telling him to “zip it,” he then delivered a soulful and crowd pleasing performance of Ne-Yo’s song Let Me Love You.
Cheryl Cole noted after his performance: You’ve got a little bit of swagger.
Simon Cowell had plenty to say to the young hopeful. He began, “You and I are going to have a little conversation and it’s called “attitude.” I really like you, Curtis. I really like you. But you’ve got to listen to what people say. I actually like your swagger but you have to work with people.”
He went on to reveal his enthusiasm for Curtis Moore’s performance. “I think you are incredibly current. One of the most current artists we’ve had on the audition process so far. Maybe this is the first time people are believing in you as a person. I think you’re really talented. I actually like you.”
As a biography, Curtis Moore is 16 years old. He is from Birmingham, England. As his hometown newspaper reports, he revealed that he got into trouble with the law — the aforementioned burglary and theft convictions — after the death of his brother.
“I just didn’t care about anything – I was kind of grieving. I just started getting drunk. I was an idiot.”
He has demonstrated resolve as well as great talent in his X factor audition, garnering four yeses from the judges and he has been sent off to X Factor Boot Camp. His full audition can be seen in the video below. He is definitely one to watch.
