Svetlana Kuznetsova went home as the Pilot Pen champion after quite a tough competition.

Svetlana Kuznetsova and Caroline Wozniacki were second-round winners Wednesday at the Pilot Pen Tennis event, which is a final U.S. Open tune-up. The tennis event took place on the hardcourts at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale, where the ladies took home $600,000.

Kuznetsova, who was the wild card entry, needed three sets Monday to defeat Zheng Jie 6-1, 6-7 (5), 6-4 in the first round of the tennis tournament.

The French Open champion won the first set easily and appeared to be doing well in the second, up 4-2 before Zheng took over and won the next three games. Svetlana said,

“I was just very frustrated I did not close it. I just want to play matches and to get into match shape. Physically, I feel good, and I want just to get some matches [before the Open].”

Svetlana is no stranger to a victory. In 2004 she won the US Open, was the runner-up in singles at the 2006 French Open and the 2007 US Open, and took home the 2009 French Open singles titles.
