Vicki Kennedy Biography

She was born in Crowley, Louisiana in February of 1954, and grew up in a family of six children. Her father is a judge named Edmund M. Reggie, her mother, Doris Ann Boustany Reggie, worked on the Democratic National Committee.

Mrs. Kennedy went to religious schools throughout her childhood, and then attended Newcomb College. There, she earned a degree in English. She then went on to earn a law degree from Tulane.

The first connection between the Reggie family and the Kennedy family appears to be when Vicki’s father helped JFK win the state of Louisiana in the vice presidential race back in the 50s.

Vicki worked as an intern at Ted Kennedy’s Senate office, but they did not have much contact. They became familiar with each other after meeting at a party, and within a year they were engaged. After their marriage, Mr. Kennedy became the stepfather of her two children.

Vicki Kennedy stayed by Senator Kennedy’s side as his primary care giver throughout his battle with brain cancer. That battle was lost this week. He was 77.
