Vogue Magazine’s notorious Fashion Editor, Anna Wintour, was on David Letterman this week, and she was surprisingly warm. Read more and see photos and video here.
Meryl Streep caricatured her sharp persona so well in The Devil Wears Prada that I can hardly stand to watch Streep’s movies anymore. I just can’t disassociate the actress with the character—that’s how brilliant she was in the film.
And it is that icy, direct, all-business style that has come to define her, so it came as a shock to some viewers that she and David Letterman had a relatively friendly exchange.
Anna Wintour even laughed a bit, and cracked jokes about herself, saying:
“…I read in the New York Times that I’m an ice-queen, I’m the sun King, uh – I’m an alien fleeing from District 9, and I’m a dominatrix.”
She did however maintain a healthy scowl throughout the interview, even when showing her trademark wit. David Letterman, who’s no slouch in the wit department either, managed to keep the conversation entertaining.
When asked about the common perception that she can be harsh to those who work under her, she said:
“…I’m very decisive, and I try to give very clear direction to the people I’m working with…sometimes unfortunately they don’t hear the answer they would like to hear.”
My favorite part of the video is when David Letterman asks Wintour “have you ever put anyone in a head-lock?” After the audience laughter dies down, she simply says “…maybe you.”
