Tune in for the live telecast of the annual awards ceremony which takes place at Radio City Music Hall in New York City with VMA host Russell Brand (picture above), British comedian known for outrageous humor, who was also last year’s host.

What time does the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards start? At 9 p.m. ET/PT on MTV (Music Television) on Sunday, September 13. The program will be tape delayed for West Coast broadcast.

It was host Russell Brand who announced the awards in a video message on August 4.

Beyonce and Lady GaGa lead the VMA nominations field each receiving nine nods for their international hit singles. Receiving the numerous nominations are the much parodied Beyonce Single Ladies (Put A Ring on It) video and for Lady Gaga Poker Face and the daring and edgy Paparazzi. Last year Britney Spears swept up three VMAs for Piece of Me in advance of her comeback album Circus. This year she receives seven MTV VMA nods for Womanizer and Circus.

In a statement, Beyonce said:

“I’ve been blessed this year to have ‘Single Ladies’ become a video people really connected with and responded to. I’ve spent so much time watching all the great versions people created all around the world. It’s beautiful to feel you touch people and bring a song to life with a video.”

Receiving four nominations each: Kanye West, Eminem, and Coldplay. See the complete 2009 MTV VMA Awards list below.

Among the music artists who are confirmed to perform at the 2009 VMAs; Taylor Swift, Pink, Green Day, and Muse. Reportedly, Taylor Swift will perform You Belong With Me” and Muse will perform their new single “Uprising” from their forthcoming fifth studio album, “The Resistance” set for release on September 14.

Check back for updates on other appearances of presenters and performers as they are announced.
The annual event is always full of surprises; we don’t know who all will turn up MTV VMA red carpet photos and that’s part of the fun!
