Amy Leigh Barnes

In November of 2008, Amy Leigh Barnes was found stabbed to death in her home in Farnworth, Bolton. Yesterday her boyfriend Ricardo Morrison was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison and will serve a minimum of 24 years.

According to reports, Amy and Ricardo were living together in her grandmother’s home. She and Ricardo had been on the rocks for a while, as friends reports that Amy would text them saying she feared for her life.

“For the past seven months Ric’s been hitting me, locking me in rooms with him so I can’t get out.

Putting knives to my throat telling me he’s going to kill me, putting pillows over my face, covering my nose and mouth with his hands and just staring at me while I’m struggling to breathe. Says if I leave him he’ll kill me and himself.”

On November 8, Amy decided she had enough and tried to leave him. An argument ensued, and things got physical. According to reports, Ricardo beat Amy and then locked her in a room. She was able to call her mother to come get her, but Ricardo returned and stabbed her repeatedly with a knife. Amy Leigh was able to dial 999 and say,

“I’m dying. He’s stabbed me to death. I’m dying. Please help me.”

Soon thereafter, Amy Leigh’s father arrived to the horrific scene of Amy curled in fetal position with stab wounds all over her body. Ricardo had left her for dead. Amy’s face was slit open from the corner of her mouth to her right ear and she was stabbed with ‘severe force’ all over her body.

Amy made it to the hospital, and was screaming in pain. Sadly, she died as a result from her injuries.

Ricardo Morrison had a history of violence against women. In February of 2005 he was convicted of assault for locking his then girlfriend in a car after grabbing her by the throat and biting her on the face. Two months later he attacked her again, biting her on the face and punching her.

Then, weeks before murdering Amy Leigh the couple was out at a club celebrating. A group of girls were using a private booth, and he blocked their entrance. The ladies asked him to move, and he punched two of the girls in the face and head butted another. The vicious attack was caught on CCTV, but due to his murder conviction, it may not make it to court.

It is tragic that he didn’t go to jail before he was able to take someone’s life.
