Mad Max 4 will be the next film director George Miller will take on. Miller began developing Mad Mad 4 before he began production on his Oscar winning movie Happy Feet, but he is now ready to focus solely on the Mad Max sequel. He also revealed that Mel Gibson will not be the lead, because he is too old and focused on other things. Miller reportedly wants an unknown Hollywood actor to take the role of Max Rockatansky.

“I have a few projects in the pipeline including an animation…but I want to do another Mad Max movie and get stuck back into that…It won’t be Mel. He was 21 when he made the first one, now he’s a lot older and his passion is for filmmaking and directing. I don’t think he is into acting and I don’t think he would be interested in being involved at all.”

Miller has reportedly been looking around Australia for filming locations and hopes to start filming later in the year. Mad Max 4 has a $100 million USD budget, and was co-written with cult British comic creator Brendan McCarthy. McCarthy is also responsible for the design of many of the new characters and vehicles.

George Miller lost interest in the Mad Max projects after his friend and producer Byron Kennedy was tragically killed in a helicopter crash while scouting for locations. While Miller agreed to direct the action sequences, he had George Ogilvie direct the rest of the film. A title card at the end of the film is shown in remembrance of his friend, saying “For Byron.” The script that he was given for Mad Max 4 completely captivated him and inspired him to make the sequel.

Yeah Tina Turner was in part 3, but she should have nothing to do with the sequel. Mel Gibson in the other hand is MAD MAX ! Tina can continue singing. I bet Mel was asked, but since he is a prick now…

It’s down to just a couple of actors now, so we’ll soon know if Aussie actor Steve Innes or closet-Canadian actor Jeremy Renner will be cast as Max.
Given that the Fury Road storyline has Max aged in his sixties, both Innes, who is forty, and Renner, who is thirty two, are both way too young to be believable.
Even Hugh Jackman, only forty one himself, is still too young and waaaay to tall!
