Matt Pinfield: Rehab Bound

According to his own public statement, he is taking a leave of absence from hosting the WRXP-FM morning show on the popular rock station in New York City. In the Matt Pinfield rehab statement he posted on his blog, he said:

I have been struggling with a dependency that I need to address, and so I will be voluntarily suspending my involvement on the 101.9 RXP morning show until I have completed the healing process.”

He went on to state he had made the decision:

“…after I realized that lately I’ve been falling off, I’ve been struggling. You think no one realizes it, but of course everyone does. They see it. So I want to get healthy not just for myself, but for my family and my coworkers, who are my second family.”

As a biography, Matt Pinfield was born on May 28, 1966 so his age is 42.

He got his start as a radio broadcaster at WRSU-FM, the Rutgers University radio station. He landed his first professional broadcast job on New Jersey alternative rock radio station WHTG-FM 106.3 and remained there for ten years, receiving the Gavin Award for National Commercial Alternative Music Director of the Year in 1992 and 1993. Additionally, he had been performing and continues to perform with several New Jersey bands.

He got his start at MTV in 1995 as the host of 120 Minutes and later of other MTV programs including ‘MattRock,’ ‘Pinfield Suite,’ ‘Rocks Off’ and ‘MTV Live.’ He was featured on MTV TRL segments called Stump Matt where he revealed extensive musical knowledge.

He left television for a few years starting in 2001 when he became Vice President of A & R and Artist Development at Columbia Records where he signed Coheed & Cambria and Crossfade and others. He made cameo appearances on various albums including Limp Bizkit’s Significant Other album.

In 2006 Matt Pinfield hosted VH1 VSpot Top 20 Countdown. He also had an interview program on HDNet called Soundoff. He appeared as himself on several episodes of ‘The Naked Brothers Band’ on Nickelodeon.

He also appeared on Sirius Satellite Radio in two programs, Matt Pinfield Plays Whatever He Wants and Soundoff with Matt Pinfield until late 2008.

Matt Pinfield had been morning host on New York radio station WRXP 101.9FM since May 2008. In 2008 the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame honored his legacy of bringing new music to public attention.
