What follows is our original story first published March 2009.

Arun Nayar is in the news today because there are reports in the media quoting unnamed sources who claim the couple may be splitting up.

Nayar’s mother, Gunnar Nayar, founder of the family’s textile firm in Mumbai, is quoted as denying the stories and dismissing them as gossip.

Elizabeth Hurley, 43, the internationally known fashion model and actress and owner of a swimwear company and an organic farm (and famously the ex-girlfriend of actor Hugh Grant), married the 44-year-old Indian business tycoon and owner of a software company in 2007, in two lavish wedding ceremonies, one in England and the other in India.

As a biography, Arun Nayar was born in Leeds, England in December 1964 so his age is 44. His mother, Gunnar Nayar, is from Germany and his father, Vinod Nayar, is from India. He has a younger brother, Nikhil Nayar. While still a child, Arun Nayar’s family moved to India. When his parents separated, he and his brother were raised by their mother.

Gunnar Nayar founded the textile firm, Tijarat Impex, in Mumbai. The company was highly successful in the 1970s creating the fortune to which the Arun Nayar and his brother are heirs.

Arun Nayar attended Cathedral and John Connon School and later, Millfield School a prestigious boarding school. He went on to study physics at Christ Church, Oxford University.

After graduating from Oxford, Arun Nayar worked for the family’s textile firm in Mumbai. He also maintained residences in France, Germany and London. In 1988, he established his computer company, Direction Software Solutions.

In the 1990s he began dating the Italian model Valentina Pedroni and the couple married in 1997. They were frequently seen in the Mumbai social circuit and from outward appearances seemed to live a glamorous life. The couple separated in 2002.

Arun Nayar met Liz Hurley sometime in 2002 and the couple began dating in the aftermath of his failed marriage and her failed relationship with the U.S. billionaire Steve Bing, with whom she had a son, Damian Charles Hurley, born in April 2002. The relationship became public in January 2003 when the couple appeared together at a Christian Dior show in Paris. Arun Nayar divorced Valentina Pedroni in 2005.

The couple’s lavish wedding in England took place at Sudeley Castle in Winchcombe, which is 125 miles west of London. The second wedding, also quite lavish took place in India, and was a Hindu ceremony at at Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur. Hello! Magazine reportedly paid £2 million for the Elizabeth Hurley Arun Nayar wedding photos. The wedding was attended by numerous celebrities including Sir Elton John, Hugh Grant, Kate Moss, Elle Macpherson, Donatella Versace, Valentino, Tracey Emin, Tom Ford, Trinny Woodall, Tamara Mellon, Patsy Kensit, Janet Street Porter, Leonard and Evelyn Lauder, and others.

The couple, along with Hurley’s son Damian, on Hurley’s 400-acre organic farm in Barnsley, Gloucestershire, and in London.
