Brittny Kissinger: Annie Musical

January 23, 2009

Meet Brittny Kissinger, the talented singer who has been performing since she was a young child and the star of the Broadway musical, ‘Annie, the 20th Anniversary.’ See photos, video and a biography of Brittny Kissinger here.

In Martin Charnin’s 20th Anniversary production of the Broadway Musical Annie, Brittny Kissinger was the understudy for Joanna Pacitti who was cast in the leading role. When she developed bronchitis and was fired amidst controversy, Kissinger was given the starring role. That was in 1997.

Fast forward to 2009 and we find that 12 year old who was fired is the same Joanna Pacitti who is now a season 8 American Idol contestant. The singer, now 24, is in the midst of controversy again, as a growing number of fans voice their belief that someone who has already had her debut album released by Geffen (in 2006), recorded tracks for ‘Legally Blonde’ and the ‘Bratz movie, and appeared on MTV’s reality series, ‘True Life’ which chronicled her music career, should not compete against amateurs.

Brittny Kissinger is also continuing her music career, performing and recording. She is not on American Idol but as the Joanna Paccitti controversy heats up, she is getting some secondary publicity, as the story of her rise to fame is remembered.

As a biography Brittny Kissinger was born on November 15, 1988 in Ballston Spa, New York, so her age is 20. She is the second of three children of Kerry and Danielle Kissinger.

As mentioned, her professional career got a spectacular start, like something out of a movie, an understudy getting the starring role and all the notoriety that goes along with it. Not only did Brittny Kissinger star in ‘Annie, the 20th Anniversary‘ during its revival on Broadway, but she went on to star in the highly successful national tour with Conrad John Schuck as Daddy Warbucks and Sally Struthers as Miss Hannigan. She also performed on the telecast of the 1997 Tony Awards at Radio City Music Hall.

She made numerous television appearances in support of the Annie the Musical tour, including Rosie O’Donnell, The Today Show, CBS This Morning, Joan Rivers Show, Geraldo, and The Gayle King Show, Fox Healthy Kids and The Howie Mandel Show.

After the national tour, Brittny Kissinger returned to her hometown and has been performing with her songwriter-musician brother, Zac Kissinger, as the duo, Tentacles Heavenward. They released their first album, Whispers in 2002. In 2003 she was a winner in ‘Search for a Superstar’ hosted by radio station WGNA 107.7FM, which paved the way for her performance at Countryfest 2003, the largest country music festival in the Northeast. She opened on the main stage for Lonestar, Steve Azar, Charlie Daniels Band, Mark Wills, and Sara Evans for an audience of more than 20,000. She is working on another album with her brother.
