Heather Headley is just one of the A-List artists from the worlds of theatre, film, opera and pop music that are scheduled to be a part of ‘We Are One: The Obama Inauguration Celebration’ held at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC.

In addition to Heather, the line-up of performers includes Beyonce, Josh Groban, Usher, Mary J. Blige, Jon Bon Jovi, Garth Brooks, Sheryl Crow, Renée Fleming, Bettye Lavette, John Legend, Jennifer Nettles, John Mellencamp, Pete Seeger, Shakira, Bruce Springsteen, James Taylor, U2, will.i.am and Stevie Wonder. Well dang! Who could possibly be missing?

And if that’s not enough, the invocation or prayer will be delivered by Reverend Gene Robinson with historical passages to be read by Jamie Foxx, Martin Luther King III, Queen Latifah and Denzel Washington.

Heather Headley was born on October 5, 1974 in Barataria, Trinidad and Tobago, so her age is 34. She is primarily an R&B and soul singer, songwriter, record producer and actress. She has won one Tony Award and received two Grammy Award nominations. She is also one of the stars to sing at Barack Obama’s Inaugural Concert on HBO.

At age four, Heather Headley began playing the music of her native Trinidad, including the sounds of calypso, reggae, and soca. In 1989, her family left the Caribbean and moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana because her father was offered a job as pastor of the McKee Street Church of God.

After graduating High School, Heather attended Northwestern University to study communications and musical theatre until the last day of her junior year, when she made the difficult decision to become a part of the musical ‘Ragtime’ and drop out of school.

In 1997, she played ‘Nala’ in ‘The Lion King’ on Broadway. She then went on to star in ‘Aida’, earning the Tony Award for Best Actress in 2000. In 1999, she appeared in ‘Do Re Mi’, with Nathan Lane, Randy Graff, and Brian Stokes Mitchell. She also starred in a concert version of the musical ‘Dreamgirls’ alongside fellow Tony Award winners Audra McDonald and Lillias White.

Her debut album, ‘This Is Who I Am’, earned her a Grammy Award nomination for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and for Best New Artist.

Heather Headley sang ‘My Country ‘Tis of Thee’ (also known as America) with Josh Groban on January 18, 2009 during the “We Are One: The Obama Inauguration Celebration”, held at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC, for Barack Obama’s inauguration.

Heather Headley is married to Brian Musso, formerly of the New York Jets.
