Rachel Griffiths is the very talented Aussie actress who plays ‘Sarah Walker’ on the hit TV drama ‘Brothers & Sisters’. Pregnant with her third child, there is no word yet on the due date and how her pregnancy might affect the show.
Rachel Anne Griffiths was born on December 18, 1968 in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia so her age is 40. She is a Golden Globe and SAG Award-winning, Academy Award-nominated and Emmy Award-nominated film and television actress known primarily for her roles in movies and television. She is best known as ‘Brenda Chenowith’ in the TV series Six Feet Under and ‘Sarah Walker’ on Brothers & Sisters.
Rachel grew up in Melbourne, Australia. After earning a Bachelor of Education degree in drama and dance, she began her career as a member of ‘Woolly Jumpers’ which is a community theatre group. She had her first success as the creator and performer of ‘Barbie Gets Hip’, which played at the Melbourne International Film Festival in 1991.
Her American film debut was in ‘My Best Friend’s Wedding’, in 1997. Rachel received an Academy Award nomination in 1998 for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of real-life flautist Hilary du Pre in ‘Hilary and Jackie’. In 2001, she appeared in ‘Blow’, opposite Johnny Depp and Ray Liotta.
In 2001, Rachel was cast as one of the leads in the terrific TV show ‘Six Feet Under’. Her performance earned her Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Awards, as well as two Emmy Award nominations. In the third season, she missed four episodes due to her first pregnancy. Her second pregnancy was written into the show’s final season. She appeared in almost every episode of the series.
Currently, Rachel is part of the ensemble cast of the TV show ‘Brothers & Sisters’, co-starring Sally Field, Calista Flockhart and Matthew Rhys. She has received 2007 and 2008 Emmy nominations for her work on this series.
Rachel is married to Australian artist Andrew Taylor. They have two children: a son named Banjo Patrick who is five, and a daughter named Adelaide Rose who is three. They announced on January 16, 2009 that they are expecting their third child.
