Du Juan Is Huang Guangyu Wife

Du Juan is the wife of Huang Guangyu, the richest man in China. She is in the news today as police have detained her as they investigate her husband’s involvement in economic crimes. Read more here.

Du Juan is the wife of Huang Guangyu, also called Wong Kwong Yu. He is the richest man in China, with a net worth of $6.3 billion. He made his fortune as the Chairman of Gome Group, which is the largest consumer electronics retailer in China, once dubbed China’s “Best Buy.”

Du Juan was the executive director of the company, but resigned on December 23, and terminated her contract and membership in the remuneration committee, as well as her status as an authorized representative after police began to investigate Wong for possible financial offenses.

Huang Guangyu’s company, Gome Electrical Appliances Holdings, suspended him from executive duties and all trading of the company’s shares in the Hong Kong stock exchange have been suspended since November. According to reports, Guangyu is the target of an official investigation in stock market manipulation and other offenses.

Du Juan is now under police guard in Beijing and is under “residential surveillance,? as police wanted to prevent her from leaving the country.

As far as a biography on Du Juan, she is 37 years old, and met her husband in the mid 90’s. She was working in the loans department of the Beijing branch of the Bank of China and Huang was building his business. The two married in 1996 and have three children together.

Du Juan is described as a petite, “fast-talking businesswoman with a firm command of the intricacies of finance.? She was the executive director of Gome since August of 2002, and helped close a deal in March 2007 that set up a $500 million private equity fund with Bear Stearns to focus on China’s retail division.

In the recent months, Du Juan purchased an $8 million home in the former British colony under her name.
