Jimmy Snuka Biography

James Reiher was born on May 18, 1943 in the Fiji Islands so his age is 65. You might know him better by his professional wrestling name of Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka.

Jimmy Snuka wrestled for several wrestling promotions in the 1970′s and 1980′s. He is best known for his time in the World Wrestling Federation (the WWE) in the early to mid-’80s, and is credited with being the first ECW Heavyweight Champion and introducing the high-flyer style of wrestling to the WWF. His son James Jr.. is also a professional wrestler, currently wrestling in WWE on its Raw brand as Sim ‘Deuce’ Snuka.

Jimmy wrestled in regional leagues for a number of years before becoming a part of the WWF. He was considered a ‘heel’ (a bad guy)when he first entered. He had famous matches with everyone who was anyone in wrestling at that time. From “Rowdy” Roddy Piper to Hulk Hogan to “Magnificent” Don Muraco.

In 1983, he became the focal point of a strange investigation regarding the suspicious death of his girlfriend Nancy Argentino. Reportedly she was discovered semi-conscious in a hotel room next to a sleeping Snuka. Various accounts of the cause came to light from alleged abuse to a slip and fall caused by intoxication. She was taken to a nearby hospital and later died of a skull fracture. The death was ruled accidental.

In 1989, after a stint in alcohol and drug rehab, Jimmy re-emerged in the WWF at Wrestlemnia V to help promote younger stars, like Curt Hennig and Rick Rude.

Jimmy Snuka was inducted into the WWF Hall of Fame in 1996. He also continued to spend much of his time with East Coast Wrestling organizations through the late 1990′s and into the 2000′s. He continues to work in nostalgia bits for WWE as well as work for U.S. independent shows and conventions. He is currently living in New Jersey.
