Debbie Matenopoulos Biography

Despina “Debbie” Matenopoulos was born on December 13, 1974 in Richmond, Va. She attended Virginia Commonwealth University for one year, and then transferred to New York University, where she studied Journalism. While attending NYU, she worked at MTV as an intern. She was successful in her internship, and was quickly promoted to other positions, eventually landing at story coordinator for the show UnFiltered.

Debbie Matenopoulos got a big break in 1997, where a chance meeting with tv legend Barbara Walters landed her on The View. She was on the show for two years and had a segment called “Dare Debbie.” She was abruptly fired from the show in 1999, and eventually moved on to the TV Guide Channel later that year. She was parodied and had a guest starring role on Saturday Night Live, was turned into a claymation character for MTV’s Celebrity Death Match, and acted in the movie Endsville.

In 2004, she began co-hosting Good Day Live, a nationally syndicated show based in LA. Just after joining, she was injured during a stunt with the LA Fire Department, where she fell incorrectly onto an airbag and was rushed to the hospital for a possible head injury that left her temporarily blind. The following year, the show was cancelled by its syndicators.

In early 2006, Debbie Matenopoulos joined the E! family as an addition to their Golden Globe coverage. Three months later, she became a co-host on The Daily 10. Debbie can also be seen as a frequent contributor to Vh1 shows like I Love the 90s and I Love Toys.

Personally, Debbie Matenopoulos married music executive Jay Faires on July 5, 2003. They separated on March 22, 2008, and on November 12, 2008, Faires filed for divorce. Debbie says she is saddened by this and states she found out by reading it online.
