David Cook SNL

David Cook performed his first new single ‘Light On’ last night on Saturday Night Live. Read more about it, see photos, and watch a video below.

Last year’s American Idol winner, David Cook, was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live last night. He performed his new single “Light On” and seemed to be really comfortable doing that grungy power ballad. His voice sounded terrific and his band was great too!

Chris Cornell of Audioslave and Soundgarden co-wrote “Light On? with Brian Howes, who also has penned material for Daughtry, Puddle of Mudd and Oklahoma City rockers Hinder.

His second SNL performance was “Declaration,? the opening track of his upcoming album. It sounded much more David Cook-like to me…somewhat big and anthemy rock. You can listen to this song in the video below the fold.

So what does David say now that he’s made the big time with a new album and a gig on SNL?

“I’m still a goober from the Midwest. Now I’ve just got a few more resources. I don’t feel like the show changed me at all.”

I am so glad he beat out Archuleta!

I love you, David Cook! You were GREAT on SNL. You are certainly one Goober I’d like to pick!!!

I was surprised by David Cook. I thought he looked kinda nervous in the first song and relieved when it was over, but I guess I’d be nervous too if I was on SNL. The second song was really cool and he looked more relaxed. It just seemed that the band was way loud and he had to kind of shout over them.

Why is it necessary to put down David Archuleta? He has nothing to do with Cook’s performance on SNL. He wishes nothing but the best for Cook and I know DC feels the same way. Why can’t you let the rivarly go? They don’t even sing the same style of music. Grow up, please. I voted for Archuleta but I don’t hold it against Cook for beating him. I hope DC has a very successful music career.

Debbie, I think people keep up the “rivalry” simply to get hits on their sites. People (like you and me) just have to comment. They get advertising dollars. That’s how it works. I think totally ignoring people still trying to compare the two is a better strategy, albeit and difficult one to adhere to.

    Hey there Debbie and Gingerly

Actually, its ok if I have an opinion about the 2 Davids and my preference of winner. It was not a slam at Archuleta but rather saying Cook was on SNL because he WAS the winner.

Sounds to me like you are a wee bit too sensitive.

From all accounts the 2 Davids are great friends and no rivalry exists – even from me – so move on.

What? David Cook was the winner of American Idol? Wow, he had a pitchy problem all over the place from low register to high. I couldn’t understand what he was saying due to his shouty yelling. The loud band sound totally covered his voice. His mike should have been volumed up. I love Daughtry’s rich voice.

I really really love the new song. I think it’s much better than Light On. I preordered his album a few weeks ago and I’m excited to see what’s on it. LOVED him on Idol, obviously, but I like think I’ll like his original music more.

No accounting for taste. David Cook rocked out on SNL. I loved both songs, but have to say Declaration sounded like the David Cook I have come to know and love pre Idol. He sang it from the heart. I am sorry that the Cook/Archuleta thing keeps raising its ugly head. They are so different in their vocals and in their performances. Both, however, are talented guys with their own fanbase. I prefer the grungier sound of David Cook. I love his personality and the way he connects with the audience in person. He was even able to do that via the television camera on AI this past season 7. I agree with Cathryn. I am so glad he won because it has opened doors for him. While Archie has a wonderful voice, David Cook is the better performer. He deserved the win and deserves the perks that go with it including the SNL gig. I thought he was awesome. Can’t wait for the CD and the tour. I like Daughtry, too, but there is only one David Cook.

Unfortunately, Cook didn’t really beat out Archuleta. That was only one time show by mistake, or by some magic unknown trick who knows. They both have a long career in front of them and who beat who is hard to say now. Will you hurt when you see Archuleta more successful,Cathryn Friar? Then you may need to be prepared for a serious pain soon. Say what you like, Cathryn, because you thought you could hide your ugly face in the internet. Unfortunately your ugly heart is seen by your putting down Archuleta in the last sentence. Cook is nothing to do with Archuleta now. Only you narrow minded dragon woman is thinking of putting down Archuleta, who is Cook’s friend, who Cook is caring and occasionally texting him to see how things go. I assume you want to read comments. I hope you feel sorry.

Wow, Mimi. Dude you seriously need to get a life! You are majorly SCARY! Ugh!
