Ashwin Sood, Sarah McLachlan’s husband is the subject in two new songs on the singer’s greatest hits album. The couple recently separated, in what Sarah describes as a “pretty gross situation.� Read Sood’s biography and see photos and video here.

Sarah McLachlan is splitting from her husband of 11 years, and the Canadian singer wrote about it in two new songs. “U Want Me 2″ and “Don’t Give Up on Us” which are featured on her upcoming greatest hits album “Closer: The Best of Sarah McLachlan.” She tells Billboard.com;

“I’m separating from my husband, so these are the songs about that. I wasn’t planning on saying anything, but it’s gonna come out at some point. I haven’t said anything about it because I’ve been terrified to, but I figure … there’s no good time to say it, so I just said it.”

Ashwin Sood was born September 25, 1967 in Birmingham, West Midlands, England. He too is a Canadian musician, and is the drummer in Sarah McLachlan’s band. He also plays percussion, loops, keyboards, and keyboard bass.

Ashwin Sood graduated from the California’s Musicians Institute (Percussion Institute of Technology) in 1990. He is a producer as well, producing songs for McLachlan, Bass is Base, and Lilith Fair.

On February 7, 1997 Ashwin Sood and McLachlan were married in Negril, Jamaica. Their daughter India Ann Sushil Sood, was born on April 6, 2002 and Sarah gave birth to their second daughter Taja on June 22, 2007. It was announced this week that the couple had split.

Sarah McLachlan’s greatest hits 2 disc deluxe album hits stores October 7.
