Russell Brand, British comedian and host of this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, is reportedly tapped to play the iconic role of Dr. Frank-N-Furter in a remake of the cult classic, “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.”
The news of a “Rocky Horror” remake hit the Internet a few weeks ago, much to the dismay of fans of the midnight masterpiece. It is supposedly going to be an MTV production, and it is only fitting that Russell Brand, host of the VMA’s, be cast as Dr. Frank-N-Furter.
With his signature teased-up hair, slight frame, and devil-may-care grin, Russell Brand appears to be a good fit. He has already shown his comedic chops in the summer comedy, “Forgetting Sarah Marshall.” For those of you unfamiliar with the musical, Dr. Frank-N-Furter, played by the hilarious and sexy Tim Curry, is a cross-dressing scientist who is making himself the perfect man.
Richard O’Brian, the creator of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” has expressed his displeasure at the remake. Not only is it being produced without his consent, he is completely uninvolved with the project. Hopefully MTV does the film justice, and Russell Brand doesn’t disappoint its fans.
