After an intensive search to find the right actress to play Alice, Tim Burton and Disney have found their leading lady, Mia Wasikowska.
Mia Wasikowska is an Australian born actress who is now working in the United States. She was born in 1990, making her 18 years old. As a child she studied ballet and later switched to acting. She has been acting steadily since 2006. She has been in several movies and television shows, and was nominated for a Young Actor AFI, for her role in Suburban Mayhem. Currently she stars as Sophie on the HBO series, In Treatment.
This will be her largest role to date, a role that will jump-start her career. The new Alice in Wonderland movie is based on a script by Linda Woolverton, who also wrote The Lion King. The movie will be presented in Disney 3-D and shot with live-action and performance-capture footage. The movie is due out in 2010.
