The New York Post is reporting actress Tatum O’Neal was arrested and “charged early today with criminal possession of a controlled substance,” which they are reporting as cocaine and crack. The situation occurred very close to her apartment building, The Forward, located on the Lower East Side of Manhattan.
The Post’s sources say the arrest happened around 7:30 p.m. and Tatum did some negotiating with the officers.
“When the police approached, she asked them, ‘You know who I am, right?’ ” one source said. Then she said, ‘I’m researching a part – I’m doing this for a part as a junkie.’ ”
“Then she said she’d been clean for two years, and that she’d just came out today,” the source said. “Can’t we just forget about this?” sources said she begged the detectives.
A pipe was found in O’Neal’s possession, but it was clean. The Post also reports she went to rehab in 1996 and had claimed to be clean since then.
Personally, Tatum is the daughter of Ryan O’Neal and the youngest person to ever win an Oscar. She was ten-years-old when she won for her performance in “Paper Moon.” O’Neal’s latest role is opposite Denis Leary in “Rescue Me,” where she plays his alcoholic sister. Tatum has three children with former professional tennis player, John McEnroe.
