It’s finally here, the ‘American Idol’ season finale is on next week and it’s between the two Davids - David Cook and David Archuleta. It’s anyones game at this point, but Cook has done some unforgettable performances. Below you can see the best ones in a David Cook videos compilation.

My favorite performance up to this point has been Cook’s rendition of Mariah Carey’s “Always Be My Baby.” I think the whole shock factor of him picking that song made it stand out. Mariah was even caught off guard by his choice.

“I was surprised that David chose ‘Always Be My Baby’ because I didn’t know what he was going to do with it. I thought he did something really different and it made me proud as a song writer like this song can stand the test of time.”

For me, that was the defining performance and the point where David Cook tilt the scales in his favor of actually winning the whole thing. Not to mention the judges have been all over him since then.

The next performance is Cook’s version of Lionel Richie’s “Hello.” Again he takes a song and completely changes it, yet you know exactly what he’s singing. He has a knack for “taking risks” and doing the song his way, but not over doing it.

“Billie Jean” was another good performance but it shouldn’t get the originality props everyone gave it. That song has been done by Chris Cornell the same way. Cook did a good job, he just wasn’t the first. Cornell isn’t bitter. Sales of his cover went up 300% after Cook sang it.

“You can clearly see that the judges are giving this guy credit for it on national television. My fans were like, ‘Wait a minute! That’s Chris Cornell’s moment.’ “Don’t get me wrong. He sang it great. But it was literally a note-for-note take on what I came up with. “At the end of the day, it’s all good. It’s a good thing for me. There was a moment when I was sitting there writing this new arrangement thinking, `Is this a good idea or a bad idea?’ “Watching the response from the judges was really gratifying. They were signing off on it right there.”

I’m giving him “Little Sparrow” because I think it really shows his ability as an artist. Even if he’s not your favorite, you have to respect the guys ability to sing. Plus, you get to hear Paula’s wacked out ass speak and Simon sums up what everyone is thinking.

The final video is David Cook’s audition tape. I thought it would be fun to compare him from the very beginning. He talks about his versatility as an artist from day one, but why does he say he’s from Tulsa, Oklahoma? Also, last week he said he had no intentions of auditioning, he just came with his brother. But in the interview he says he watched Chris Daughtry the night before to prepare. And his mom is there, not his brother. Whatever. American Idol producers probably hand picked him like Carly Smithson.
