Ellen DeGeneres and longtime girlfriend Portia de Rossi are getting married. The announcement was given on Ellen’s daytime talk show after she discussed the California Supreme Court ruling in favor of gay marriage. See the video of Ellen’s announcement below.

The 50-year-old DeGeneres had the 35-year-old de Rossi in the audience when she made the announcement. Audience members gave the couple a standing ovation. Ellen and Portia have been dating since December 2004 and Ellen has previously publicly said she hoped the two would be “together the rest of our lives.”

“I never would have thought my life would have turned out this way. To have money. Or to have a gorgeous girlfriend. I just feel so lucky with everything in my life right now.”

The wedding could happen in the next month, but religious and social conservatives are working to undo the Supreme Court ruling by putting a consitutional amendment on the November ballot. I wonder if this means Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt will tie the knot now?
