Dottie died tragically early this morning when her tour bus ran off the road in Missouri. She was on her way to a performance in Texas for Mother’s Day.

“I know Dottie is in heaven in the arms of God right now, but our earth angel will surely be missed,” country singer Dolly Parton said in a statement. “Dottie was a dear friend, a fellow singer, songwriter and entertainer, and as of late my duet singing partner.”

It was unclear if the accident was weather-related as severe storms had hit the region yesterday.




Dottie Rambo Biography

Dottie Rambo was born on March 2, 1934 in Madisonville, Kentucky so her age was 78. She grew up in poverty and developed an early affinity for country music.

She got her first break when she sang for then governor of Louisiana, Jimmie Davis, who was also a popular country and gospel music recording artists. Davis signed her to a writing contract with his publishing company, Jimmie Davis Music (BMI).

In 1968 she won a Grammy Award for Best Soul Gospel Performance for her album It’s The Soul Of Me.

In 1987, Rambo suffered a ruptured disk which led to paralysis in her left leg which limited her mobility. She got divorced from her husband at that time and remained single till death. She reentered the studio in 2003 to record her first solo album in eighteen years and the result was the award-winning hit ‘’Stand By The River’’.

Rambo was inducted to the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame in 2006 and the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2007.

She has had more than 2,500 published songs.
