Meet Jodi Applegate, the news anchor for “Good Day New York” on WNYW. See her biography, photos and video here.
Jodi Applegate, who feels the pressure to stay in shape by being on camera, recently lost 30 pounds. She dropped from a size 8 to size 2, and she looks fantastic. Her secrets include lots of protein, eating right, and exercise.
As a biography, Jodi Applegate was born on May 2, 1964 in Wheeling, West Virginia, so her age is 44. Jodi grew up just outside Pittsburgh, and graduated from New York University with a degree in television and film. In the 1980s, Jodi appeared in two movies, but quit acting shortly thereafter. She has worked as a host and news anchor since 1993, including stints on the Today show and MSNBC Live. She also worked on local news programs in Arizona and Boston before moving to New York in 2004.
In 2003 Jodi earned an Emmy for her hosting and interviewing skills. The same year she won an Associated Press Award for her skills in spot reporting.
In late 2006, Jodi became one of the more well-known news anchors in New York when she openly yelled at two men she was interviewing for a spot on bicycle thieves. While demonstrating how to use an angle grinder to cut a bike chain, one of the men pretend to be sliced across the throat. Jodi did not appreciate the joke and scolded the men live on-air.
More recently, in May 2008, Jodi revealed on-air a long-kept family secret. After her mother became pregnant before she was married, she left town and returned with a baby, telling everyone she found the little girl at an orphanage to avoid being shunned. Jodi believed she was adopted until her mother’s death in 1981.
When talking about her daily schedule, it becomes apparent that morning news anchors are a breed all their own. Jodi wakes up at 3:00 a.m. every morning, gets to the office by 4, has meetings until 6, and is on the air until 9. She says she’s in bed by 7:00 or 7:30 every night. That would be nearly impossible.
