Hans Reiser Found Guilty

Here is Hans Reiser, an American computer programmer who was widely involved in the development of Linux with his ReiserFS filesystem. See his photos, biography and video here.




Hans was found guilty today of first degree murder in the death of his wife Nina Reiser in late 2006. The case has made continuous headlines because of his status in the open-source software community. Reiser faces a mandatory sentence of 25 years to life in prison.




Hans Reiser Biography

Hans Reiser was born on December 19, 1963 so his age is 44. He dropped out of his junior high school before he was 14, citing disagreements with the conventional schooling system and was accepted at the University of California, Berkeley at the age of 15 where he received a BA in Systematizing.

Reiser was deeply involved in Linux kernel development with his widespread ReiserFS journaling file system and its successor Reiser4. In 1997 he founded and has since headed Namesys Inc., a software company specializing in operating systems and in developing and providing support for his file systems.

He was the prime suspect of his wife’s murder in September,2006 based on the statements of some neighbours and later investigation.

A lot of people from the software industry expressed their sympathies over his Reiser’s sentence.
