Marissa Jaret Winokur is just one of the latest celebrities who will compete in Season 6 of Dancing With the Stars. She was officially announced this evening as one of the 12 celebrity dancers who will strut their stuff on the dance floor.
As a biography, Marissa Jaret Winokur was born on February 2, 1973 in New York City. She attended Fox Lane High School, where she was a cheerleader as well as being the captain of the soccer team. She went on to The American Musical and Dramatic Academy and graduated from the program.
Marissa appeared in the Broadway musical production of Hairspray and won the Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical in 2003 for her role as Tracy Turnblad. In the early stages of Hairspray, Marissa was diagnosed with cervical cancer. She underwent a hysterectomy and did not let anyone know of her condition except for immediate family, as she was afraid she would be replaced on the show. She is now cancer free.
Marissa went on tour with Grease from 1994 to 1995 and played Pink Lady Jan in Grease on Broadway in 1995.
Marissa has appeared in film as well – American Beauty, Never Been Kissed, Scary Movie and Fever Pitch, to name a few.
She had television roles on shows such as Stacked and Curb Your Enthusiasm. She is the lead in a new 20th Century Fox and CBS pilot called Fugly.
