Today at 5:30 p.m., Kiefer Sutherland surrendered at the Glendale City Jail to begin his 48-day sentence. Kiefer was was arrested and pled guilty to a DUI in September. So in honor of the longest celebrity sentence for a DUI since I can remember, I present you with a list of celebrity DUI counts and their consequences.
Kiefer Sutherland – Two DUI’s
Forty-eight days is a pretty strong sentence for a DUI, so it would lead one to believe that it is not Kiefer Sutherland’s first offense. And one would be right. In November 2004, Sutherland was arrested for driving with a .22 blood alcohol level. After a no contest plea, he was sentenced to 5 years’ probation. The September 2007 DUI violated that probation. This gives Jack Bauer a grand total of 2 DUI’s.
Lindsay Lohan – 2 DUI’s
On May 25, 2007, Lindsay Lohan was arrested for DUI after crashing her car. Cocaine was found in her Mercedes, although Lindsay denied that it was hers. Lindsay went to rehab in hopes to resolve the resulting legal troubles, but less than two weeks out of rehab, Lindsay was arrested again on July 24, 2007. Again she wrecked her car while under the influence. Again cocaine was found, this time in Lohan’s pants pocket. Lindsay went to rehab in Sundance, Utah this time, and ended up serving only 84 minutes in jail.
Paris Hilton – 1 DUI, Probation Violation
Paris Hilton was arrested on September 7, 2006 for DUI after being pulled over for “driving erratically”. She told Ryan Seacrest that she hadn’t had anything to eat that day and had worked long hours on the set of her music video – that’s why it only took one margarita to put her over the .08 limit. Paris was only given three years’ probation, but when she violated that probation in November 2006 by speeding without headlights, Paris was sentenced to 45 days in jail. Paris served that sentence very publicly, after entering jail after the VMA’s.

Nicole Richie – 2 DUI’s
Although less publicized than Lindsay Lohan’s and Paris Hilton’s DUI’s, Nicole Richie’s is by far the most erratic driving by looks of it. On December 11, 2006, Nicole was arrested after driving the wrong way on the Ventura Freeway and then parking in the car-pool lane. Richie admitted to taking Vicodin and smoking marijuana before driving. She’s still trying to live down “Wrong Way Richie”. But this isn’t Nicole’s only under the influence charge. Her first conviction was in 2003 for driving under the influence of alcohol. Nicole served 82 minutes in jail for her second DUI.
Mel Gibson’s – 2 DUI’s
Mel Gibson’s DUI in July 2006 got so much attention that it made CNN. He was pulled over on the Pacific Coast Highway for speeding, and officers noticed that Gibson had been drinking – his blood alcohol level was .12. Mel then went into a rant, using profanity and calling the officers names like “sugar tits” and saying “F*****g Jews… The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world.” Gibson had previously been arrested for DUI in 1984.
Ray Liotta – 1 DUI
Michelle Rodriguez – 2 DUI’s
On December 1, 2005, Michelle Rodriguez’s car was spotted weaving in Kailua, Hawaii. She was pulled over and arrested for DUI. This followed a June 2004 no contest plea for hit and run, drunken driving and driving with a suspended license. Rodriguez has been pulled over for speeding several times in Hawaii, including a charge of going 90 mph in a 35 mph zone. Although Rodriguez served her jail time (just a few hours), she has to serve more because she never performed her community service – on October 10, 2007, she was sentenced to 180 days.
