Meet Robbie Knievel, the son of Evel Knievel and a daredevil in his own right. See photos, video and his biography here.
Today, November 30, 2007, Robbie Knievel’s dad, Evel Knievel, passed away after several years of struggling with his health.
Robbie Knievel was born May 7, 1962 in Butte, Montana, one of four kids born to Evel and Linda Knievel. His age is 45. Robbie began jumping his bicycle at age 4 and riding a motorcycle at age 7. He performed his first show with his dad at Madison Square Garden when he was 8 years old.
Robbie began touring with his dad at age 12, but he broke out on his own after his dad disapproved of lengthening his jumps. For years, Robbie and his father did not speak, but recently the relationship warmed. Robbie has now successfully completed every jump that his dad has except for two – the bus jumping record Evel set in 1975 and the Snake River Canyon jump from 1974.
Evel was quoted as saying,
“Some people say it is easier now. His bike weighs about 200lbs less than the one I jumped with. The suspensions today are fantastic. But you know, you still have to have the guts to jump. You still have to be able to pull the trigger. I lost that. I got to the stage where I couldn’t pull the trigger any more. I am not going to take anything away from Robbie. He is a great rider.”
In 2005, Robbie had his own show on A&E called “Knievel’s Wild Ride”. The next year he opened his own business called Knievel’s Custom Cycles. He’s also involved in the whiskey called “Knievel’s Viper”.
