Swiss tennis star Martina Hingis, also known as the “Swiss Miss”, is being accused of testing positive for cocaine at this year’s Wimbledon Championships. See photos and video here.
Martina Hingis announced today that she tested positive for cocaine at Wimbledon this year, but says she has never done drugs and is shocked and appalled at the test results.
Despite declaring her innocence, Hingis has decided to retire from her professional tennis career.
Martina told the press,
“Considering this situation, my age, and the problems I have been having with my hip, I have decided to no longer play tennis on the Tour.”
Martina Hingis, who was born into a tennis family, has won five Grand Slam singles titles – three Australian Opens, one Wimbledon, and one US Open. She has also won nine Grand Slam women’s doubles titles. She set a series of “youngest-ever�? records, and spent 209 weeks at number one. She has had several surgeries and set backs due to hip, leg, and feet problems. Her last match was this past September 19, with Peng Shuai of China. Peng Shuai left that match victorious. She is currently the number 19 tennis player in the world.
