Iman made her first public appearance since the death of her husband, music legend David Bowie. The legendary supermodel and entrepreneur attended the Tom Ford NYFW Show and in an interview, she opened up about how she is coping with the loss.
The 61-year-old Iman was married to David Bowie for 24 years, until his tragic death from cancer just days after his 69th birthday, which was also the release date of released what became his final album, ‘Blackstar.’ As his diagnosis and his 18 month battle with the disease has been kept secret, the news was a shock worldwide. His influence and his legacy — dating back to the 1970s and the Ziggy Stardust years — spans across many genres from music to film to fashion.
The couple first met in 1990, tied the knot in 1992 and shared an enduring romance throughout their years together and as such was one of those enduring celebrity marriages. They had one child together, a 16-year-old daughter, Lexie.
For Iman, that was just the first loss. Her mother, Maryan Baadi, also passed away this year just three months after Bowie. Although paparazzi have snapped photos of her on occasion in New York City, the Tom Ford show at NYFW was her first official outing.
She took to Instagram and posted a photo of herself (which you can see below) and captioned it, “My first night out attending an event since last year!” She shared more photos, including a selfie with fellow iconic supermodel Cindy Crawford.
She was stunning in a blue velvet pantsuit, as pic below attest. People reports that she spoke with GMA’s Joe Zee about her losses and said, “It’s just been a tough year, but I’m holding up.”
She also spoke about the gold necklace she was wearing in honor of her late husband. She said, “I’m wearing this until my death. [Fashion designer] Hedi Slimane made it for me…It just says ‘David.'”
When Zee called her a “survivor,” she replied, “”Not as much as you think,” she replied.
Prior to David Bowie’s death, Iman opened up about their longtime marriage, in an interview broadcast on OWN’s “Oprah: Where Are They Now?.” She said, “We both understand the difference between the person and the persona. When we are at home, we are just Iman and David. We’re not anybody else.”
