Renee Zellweger is stunning in a black one-shoulder gown on the red carpet at the world premiere of ‘Bridget Jones’s Baby’ in London, 15 years after the release of the 2001 original. The photos and video are going viral and you can see them right here!
Third time’s a charm! ‘Bridget Jones’s Baby’ is getting rave reviews from critics which just goes to show that sometimes sequels are winners. The original, ‘Bridget Jones’s Diary’ of 2001 became an instant classic and launched the now 47-year-old Renee Zellweger to stardom. But then, there was that 2004 sequel, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, that was nearly universally panned by critics.
This time around, for her part, the star is being praised for her reprisal of the title role for the third time, portraying that iconic character of Helen Fielding’s international bestselling novels.
She was dazzling in London at Leicester Square, where she wore a black one-shoulder Schiaparelli gown, with a high slit. And for those who might think brooches are out of style, well, Zellweger’s dramatic tiger brooch perched at hip-level just might start a new trend.
She walked the red carpet with her boyfriend musician Doyle Bramhall II. Also attending were fellow co-stars Patrick Dempsey and Colin Firth as well as Emma Thompson among others.
Yes, she is back on the big screen after a six-year hiatus which she spoke of according to People, at a press event for the movie, saying, in part, “I hope I’m a little less boring than I might have been after just 25 years of being an actress and being in that cycle of making films.”
As her fans and admirers — and celebrity watchers in general — know, Zellweger has been a magnet for criticism, rumors and speculation over her face and what kind of plastic surgery or other cosmetic procedures she may have undergone. She famously pushed back in an essay, published by Huffington Post, saying in part, “Not that it’s anyone’s business, but I did not make a decision to alter my face and have surgery on my eyes. This fact is of no true import to anyone at all, but that the possibility alone was discussed among respected journalists and became a public conversation is a disconcerting illustration of news/entertainment confusion and society’s fixation on physicality.”
She also took a jab at the trolls in general, saying they are ““folks who practice cowardly cruelty from their anonymous internet pulpits.
This time around, who knows? There will always be trolls and critics among us who will opine for notoriety or other motives, but Zellweger, thus far, has found that critics have been focused on her performance instead of making claims — as that Variety critic did — that she “no longer looks like herself.”
