Britney Spears graces the cover of Marie Claire UK and opens up about how motherhood has changed her. She also speaks about her dating life and her diet and how she stays fit for her Las Vegas residency.
The 34-year-old icon has a new album out, ‘Glory’ and with it, she’s back in the midst of the pop music landscape. It’s her first since 2013’s ‘Billie Jean’ and it’s getting mostly positive reviews.
In her interview with Marie Claire UK she reflects upon her ‘Piece of Me’ residency in Las Vegas and the stable life she’s maintained in the past three years, raising her two young sons.
She said, “I moved to Los Angeles when I was very young…I was so under scrutiny. If a hair was out of place, I’d be so anxious. I would get very anxious about so many things.” She went on to contrast her life now and said, “Becoming a mother and being with my boys [Jayden, 9, Sean Preston, 10] has made me so much more accepting of myself. I’m their mom, whatever. That has been a really big thing for me over these last few years.”
She also opened up about how she’s been maintaining her fitness. Noting that her sister tries to convince her to eat brownies, she went on to say, “‘She’s always trying to get me to eat. I never ate sushi until a year or so ago. I thought the idea of raw fish was horrible. Then we had a day in a hotel in Vegas and she ordered up every single bit of sushi they had and we sat there just eating everything. Now I’m hooked.’
The new addiction, however, doesn’t seem to have made any impact on her physique, as all recent appearances attest, including the stunning LBD with cutouts she wore at the MTV VMAs, where, incidentally, she delivered her first live performance since 2007. Yes, she’s come a long way since that much panned performance in the midst of her personal struggles which now are years behind her, and far into the proverbial rear mirror.
She’s been single for quite some time, since her split from attorney David Lucado in 2014. She left him shortly after after a TMZ exposed him in a notorious cheating scandal. She revealed that dating has been for her — as it is for us all — very much hit and miss. She said, “I had a really bad date.” Reiterating, she added, “I mean, it was really bad.” Confessing that this was someone whom she “really liked” she went on to say, “I was getting anxious, worrying he wouldn’t like me. In the evening I got on the scales and I had lost six pounds.’”
She went on to recollect their date night and said, “We went to the movies, but I could tell right away it wasn’t working. It was sort of awkward. So after the movie I came home and that was it.” She went on to say he “just wasn’t that into me.” and added, ” It happens to everybody. Being famous doesn’t make you any different.’
