Alicia Vikander graces the cover of ‘Vanity Fair’ and opens up about her boyfriend, Michael Fassbender and how they fell in love on the set of their movie ‘The Light Between Oceans.’ The Oscar-winning Swedish actress also poses for an alluring photo shoot.
The September ‘Vanity Fair’ cover is no small coup. Ditto being photographed by legendary fashion photographer by Mario Testino. It’s testament to how far the 27-year-old Alicia Vikander has come in just a few years. She rose to fame as the star of ‘The Danish Girl,’ nabbing the Oscar no less, in the much anticipation screen adaptation of the international bestselling novel. From there she’s gone on to become a Hollywood A list star. She’s a costar opposite Matt Damon in ‘Jason Bourne’ just to name one of her plum screen credits.
Now her latest movie is ‘The Light Between Oceans’ which is getting a lot of buzz — yes, including Oscar buzz — but not least because of the co-stars off screen romance. She and 39-year-old Michael Fassbender portray respectively a lighthouse keeper and his wife. Yes, yet another couple that fell in love on a movie set, but this time around, no respective spouses were deserted.
Alicia Vikander tells ‘Vanity Fair’ about the isolation of filming fostered the romance with Michael Fassbender. She and fellow cast members and crew lived in the remote lighthouse where the movie was shot.
She said, ““He was very sweet at letting me in. . . . He was like, ‘Can you please give me a note? What do you think I should do?’ It was such a sweet thing to kind of let me in.”
For his part, Fassbender had some high praise for her saying, in part, “With a lot of these actresses coming out, there’s this bravery that you don’t see so much in male actors. . . . I noticed this as well with Lupita [Nyong’o] in 12 Years a Slave—this focus and understanding that there’s an opportunity given to you and you grab it.”
And of course, now as one half of a celebrity couple, much of the attention is not on her Thespian mastery, to say the very least. It’s none too high minded. She offered just a passing comment on tabloids, saying, “The gossip press is so big out here. There’s an urge to find that one thing that you say that can make a headline. It’s tough because I don’t want to be reserved, or holding back, or to not be myself.”
